you have a good plan The weight difference is of absolutely no importance, unless you plan on racing competitively (in which the Z32 is an unwise choice), or drag racing competitively (where tenths and hundredths of a second count). Trannys are the same, but some TT guys mod their Z's with NA rear diffs to get the quicker acceleration. I have read that the '97 tranny is a better engineered tranny than the original one. I can say that I am disappointed with mine ('93), fast shifts from 3rd to 4th ALWAYS grind, even if I am at a stoplight if I do not pause for a second when I put the clutch in from neutral to 1st, it will grind if I make that gear selection to quickly. It not only is embarassing, but is a real pain in the ass. My suggestion.... Find an NA that is in badass shape, low miles...by the time you pay it off you will be done with college and hopefully situated with a good job. In that time you likely will take care fo all the non-engine related things that bug you. Once the car is paid off, do the swap either yourself or hire someone reputable to do it for you. The swap is not the cheapest route, but it makes sense if you cannot find a TT where the rest of the car is in as good shape as a nice NA, once the NA is paid off. This is my goal, my car was in great shape when I bought it. It makes no sense for me to sell it and buy a TT that is in worse shape as far as paint and interior and suspesion is concerned once I have paid off my NA, so I will do the swap when I am in a situation where I can afford to drop 10k on an engine/drivetrain.
